PURPOSE:To obtain an optical molding which neither causes staining of a mold or a stamper nor undergoes decrease in transparency when subjected to wet heat treatment, by melt-molding a polycarbonate specified in repeating units, a viscosity-average MW and compounds contained. CONSTITUTION:In a process for producing an optical molding by melt-molding a polycarbonate having at least 90% repeating units of formula I and a viscosity-average MW of 1.3X10<4>-1.8X10<4>, said polycarbonate contains below 0.3% compound of formula II or III, wherein X is an alkylene, an alkylidene, a cycloalkylidene, -O-, -CO-, -OCO-, -S-, -SO- or -SO2-, Y is H or formula I or II, R is a 1-4C alkyl, R' is a 1-25C alkyl, p and q are each 0-4, r is 0-5, l is 0 or 1, m and n are each 0 or an integer, and m+n is 0-4).
