PURPOSE:To extremely reduce memory capacity by dividing a graphic pattern for each block and at the same time extracting a block including a graphic pattern out of those divided blocks to store only the graphic pattern in the extracted block. CONSTITUTION:An input graphic pattern is stored in a pattern memory means 4 and then divided into blocks for each character of a text memory 1 by an allocating means 2. Then only the block including a graphic pattern is extracted by an extracting means 3 and only graphic data in the extracted block is stored in a graphic control means 4. An output control means 5 reads data on the characters corresponding to the blocks storing the graphic data out of the means 4 together with the corresponding graphic data when the character data is outputted from the memory 1. These readout data are converted into a synthetic pattern and outputted 1. Thus a graphic pattern can be stored in the minimum and necessary pattern and therefore the memory capacity is extremely reduced.
