SOIL DISCRIMINATOR

PURPOSE:To display a particle size of soil accurately and directly, by processing output signals of a vibration sensor and a load sensor incorporated into a rod for exploration in combination. CONSTITUTION:A rod 1 for exploration incorporating a vibration sensor 2 and a load sensor 3 near the tip thereof is penetrated into soil with a penetrating device 6 such as hydraulic cylinder. Output signals are inputted from the vibration sensor 2 for detecting vibration generated with the penetration of the rod 1 for inspection and from the load sensor 3 for detecting a penetration resistance and a processor 7 outputs soil information. A waveform characteristic value conversion means (a) in the processor 7 converts the output signal of the vibration sensor 2 into a waveform characteristic value. A particle size discrimination means (b) discriminates the particle size of soil from a relationship between the waveform characteristic value and the penetration resistance determined by soil when the waveform characteristic value and the penetration resistance are applied and shows the particle size of soil thus discriminated on a display device (c).
