PURPOSE:To easily detect the reading error of discrimination data without executing the arithmetic processing of a circulating redundancy code (CRC code) by recording the discrimination data of the discrimination field of respective sectors with a special code having a high redundancy. CONSTITUTION:For the discrimination field 4 for respective sectors, discrimination data are converted and recorded to a special code 33 and a circulating redundancy code (CRC code) is not added. A code prepared by inverting the arbitrary bit of a special code 23 to show one sector goes to a code not to existing as the special code of the discrimination data 7 or the special code 23 to show the discrimination data of a sector recorded to the position physically away from a sector 3 even if the code goes to the existing code. The coincidence of a special code stored beforehand and the special code 23 of the discrimination field 4 read from a magnetic disk 1 is investigated. Thus, the reading error of the discrimination data can be easily detected.
