摘要 PURPOSE:To provide the title magnetic recording medium having sufficient resistance to the corrosion of gaseous SO2 and having a low friction coefficient by forming a thin-fim magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic substrate, exposing the surface to a glow discharge atmosphere, and then immediately furnishing a protecting and lubricating layer. CONSTITUTION:The rolled vapor-deposited article 21 obtained by passing the nonmagnetic substrate 22 through a roll-type vapor deposition device is treated with a glow discharge while being rewound in a glow discharge zone 23, the protecting and lubricating layer is then immediately coated by a coating head 24, and the material is dried in a drying zone 25. Rare gases such as Ne, Ar, and Kr or standard gases such as O2, N2, and CO2 are selected in accordance with the purpose, and introduced into the discharge zone 23 to generate glow discharge. A 12-18C fatty acid such as oleic acid, myristic acid, and stearic acid, their metal salts and esters, etc., are exemplified as the compd. to be used for the protecting and lubricating layer, and >=50% fatty acid or its metal salt is preferably incorporated into the layer.
