PURPOSE:To enhance irradiation efficiency by eliminating wasteful emission, by determining the position of a calculus desired to be destructed and emitting an ultrasonic shock wave only when the calculus is present in an indicated region or at a position high in the presence probability of the calculus. CONSTITUTION:The position of the calculus 1 in the body is detected by an ultrasonic observation means and, subsequently, the state of the calculus 1 caught by the observation means 2 is analyzed by a positioning signal generating means 4 and the treatment most suitable for the treatment of the calculus is selected and determined according to the kind of the calculus and the positioning signal of the treatment order of the calculus is inputted and stored. A focus moving means 7 acts according to said positioning signal, and a water bag 5 and a shock wave generator 6 are driven and the focus position of a shock wave is matched with the calculus 1. Thereafter, the shock wave is generated by a shock wave generating means 11 to destruct the calculus 1. Operation is temporarily stopped after the shock wave is generated the indicated number of times, and the size of the crushed stones and the focus position of the shock wave are confirmed and operation is repeated until the calculus is perfectly crushed.
