PURPOSE:To smoothly vary the conveying direction of a sheet of paper even in the case of combination of an unstiff sheet of paper with a gate mechanism part for varying a conveying direction by forming the sectional form in the direction perpendicular to an advancing direction of the mutually opposite paper contacting faces of interposingly holding members which form an interposingly holding conveying means, into the engagement of projections and recesses. CONSTITUTION:The interposedly held part by rollers of a bill which is positioned between roller members 54, 55 is pressed by three ring members forming a recessed deformed part and, when the interval between a roller conveying part 51 and a gate mechanism part 120 is proper, the bill is pushed out with its shape kept as it is. The recessed deformed part functions just like a keel giving a bending rigidity in the longitudinal direction to the bill of the pushed-out part. Accordingly, even when it is expected that the gate mechanism part 120 which varies the conveying direction of the bill P1 through its mechanical guiding action is combined with an unstiff bill, the conveying direction of the bill P1 can be smoothly varied.
