PURPOSE:To enhance metathesis reaction activity, by forming a catalyst by synthesizing activated carbon represented by a general formula containing alkylidene on the surface of fundamental oxide consisting of molybdenum oxide, tungsten oxide and rhenium oxide. CONSTITUTION:Fundamental oxide is formed from molybdenum oxide, tungsten oxide and/or rhenium oxide and subsequently combined with aluminum and/or magnesium. Then, aluminum and/or magnesium are reacted with alkylidene halide gas to generate an alkylidene free group which is, in turn, guided to the fundamental oxide and an active point containing alkylidene is synthesized on the surface of said fundamental oxide to prepare a metathesis reaction catalyst. The active point is represented by formula I (wherein R' and R are an alkyl group or H and M is a metal atom constituting fundamental oxide).
