PURPOSE:To attain electric low loss and to make the direction of beam variable by inserting a dielectric plate between a ground conductor plate and a part of feeder so as to change the length or thickness of the dielectric of the feeder along the direction of line. CONSTITUTION:Dielectric plates 6a, 6b are provided on air gap 5 between a part of a feeder 2 and a ground conductor plate 3 and the dielectric plates 6a, 6b are formed to be an isosceles triangle whose center line is orthogonal to the direction of line of the feeder 2. In moving the dielectric plate 6a in a direction orthogonal to the line direction of the feeder 2, the electric length of the feeder 2 is changed and the exciting phase of the radiation conductors 1a, 1b is changed and the beam direction of the planar antenna is changed in the direction (x). On the other hand, in moving the dielectric plate 6b in a direction orthogonal to the feeder 2, the exciting phase of the radiation conductors 1b, 1d is changed and the beam direction is changed in the direction (y). Since a radio wave is fed to an inverted microstrip line where the part between the feeder 2 and a ground conductor 3 is used as the air gap 5, the dielectric loss is small and the loss up to the radiation conductor 1 is decreased.
