PURPOSE:To perform four-link labeling and eight-link labeling of a picture signal by providing a label deciding part having a single decision logic. CONSTITUTION:A picture element converting part 400 transmits a mask pattern of the output of a picture element segmenting part 100 to a four-link label decision logic 210 as it is in the case of a four-link selection command; and in the case of an eight-link selection command, a picture element (e) of a mask pattern 12 is defined as the noticed point, and mask pattern data where picture information is forcibly assigned to areas related to the noticed point (e) only by four links is generated when picture information (signal in the high level) exists in areas related to only eight links out of areas of the mask pattern even though picture information does not exist in area related to the noticed point (e) only by four links. Thus, four-link labeling and eight-link labeling are performed with the single logic and the logic circuit of a labeling processor is simplified.
