PURPOSE:To improve the reliability and density of recording and to speed up a recording operation by attracting magnetic carriers to a magnetic latent image and developing the image, and holding ink at a developed part and attracting the ink to recording paper. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic latent image corresponding to a recording image is formed on a magnetic layer 1 by a magnetic head 3 across a surface layer 2. The magnetic carriers 4 are attracted to a latent image part by a magnetic brush 5 to perform magnetic development and then liquid ink 6 is applied over the layer 2 by an ink roller 7. Consequently, the ink 6 is held at the developed part through the wettability between the ink 6 and carriers 4 to perform ink development and no ink 6 sticks on other parts. Then the recording paper 8 and layer 2 are arranged opposite each other without contacting each other and the ink 6 held by the carriers 4 is attracted to the paper 8 with the high voltage applied to a back electrode, thereby forming an image on the paper 8.
