PURPOSE:To contrive to reproduce Japanese traditional dyeing and texture and the like on a resin molded item by a method wherein resin-impregnated base material is arranged on the surface of the thermosetting resin molded item and, after the item and the base material are made into an integral body, a transparent resin layer is provided on the surface of the integral body. CONSTITUTION:After a resin-impregnated base material is arranged onto the top surface or underside of a thermosetting resin molded item and the material and the item are made into an integral body, a transparent resin layer is provided on the surface of the integral body, when necessary. The thermosetting resin molded item, from the view points of strength, moldability and coating property, is preferably phenolic resin molded item. The resin-impregnated base material is the plain or clored or figured and patterned woven fabric, non-woven fabric, mat, net, lawn, paper or their combination, which is made of inorganic fiber, organic synthetic fiber or natural fiber and impregnated with thermosetting resin and dried. Woven fabric, which is impregnated with phenolic resin and dried, is preferable from the view point of interlaminar adhesion. The amount of resin in the resin-impregnated base material is preferably 20-40 wt.% from the view points of moldability and coating property. The preferable transparent resin layer is a transparent coating layer from the view point of simplicity and durability.
