PURPOSE:To discriminate the reamining capacity of a memory medium by operating the quantity of information stored in a memory means and the quantity of information stored in a management area, then operating the quantity of storable information after comparing said two quantities, and displaying the result. CONSTITUTION:One piece of optical disk 33a consists of 1 cabinet for one side, 2 cabinets for both sides, and image information equal to 16 binders, 80 thousand documents, 80 thousand pages can be stored in it 33a. However, for instance, if four binders are defined in one cabinet, maximum 30 thousand documents are stored in one binder, the remaining capacity of the cabinet is for 10 thousand documents, therefore, only maximum 10 thousand documents in total can be stored in the remaning three binders. Hence, in this case, the proportion of the remaining capacity to the whole memory capacity is operated for each management area of the memory medium and the result is displayed. This means that, since each document is respectively limited, how large the remaining-capacity proportion is operated for each management area, respective results are compared with each other to display them in percent.
