Drive belt for rubber-wheel-borne vehicles, comprising a plurality of belt plates 11 of flexible material and two cables 15 running around the belt which hold the belt plates together by means of longitudinal holes therein. Each cable is arranged to run freely through the longitudinal holes and through distancing members 16 between the plates. The distancing members are expediently configured in one and the same piece as the belt plates in order to improve the lateral stability of the belt. The two free ends of the cable are fixedly mounted in a certain tensioning plate of the belt plates by means of easily accessible tensioning members so that the length of the cable and hence of the belt is adjustable without removal of the belt from the bearing wheels.
