PURPOSE:To grasp the content of a series of revision till generation of an optional document quickly by generating document management information, and recording it corresponding to the relevant revision document. CONSTITUTION:The document management information recorded on an optical disk 19 is transferred to a memory 25 at the initialization and a central processing unit 24 generates a management table 29 with the document management information stored therein. In generating a document Y being the addition of a page B to a document X recorded already, the unit 24 displays (22) the document management information of the document X and allows an image scanner 24 to read an original of the set page B to read it and transfers the result to a picture buffer 30 of the memory 25. Moreover, the picture information of the page B is compressed by a processor 23 and the result is recorded on the disk 19. The unit 24 generates the document Y being the addition of the information group related to the page B and the number information to the document management information of the document X and records the document management information of the document Y into a corresponding management sector.
