To achieve high typing speeds, easy and non-tiring actuation of the individual keys is also required. Time is lost in producing characters, in particular when actuating the keys in the uppermost row of numbers or when actuating the shift keys by the little fingers, in which case extreme spreading positions of the fingers cannot be avoided completely. The invention is based on the object of providing a data input keyboard for typewriters or similar office machines, in which an increase in the typing speed and a more even loading of the fingers can be achieved. This object is achieved in that a dual-function key (4, 5) is arranged on each side in the longitudinal direction of the space bar (3), the actuation of which dual-function keys causes a space and capitalization at the same time, and one key (5) of which can be actuated by the left hand and the other key (4) by the right hand. It is thus possible by actuating one of the keys (3, 4, 5) to control whether an upper case or lower case character is to follow in the course of the sentence. This obviates the need for additional actuation of the known shift keys. As a result, disturbances in the typing rhythm can be avoided and a considerable increase in typing speed can be achieved. <IMAGE>
