The invention concerns a method for improving the economic efficiency of operating pressure booster facilities and the like with a preset pressure setpoint, in which the pumps are driven by electric motors with speed controllers such as frequency converters or similar devices. Its purpose is not only to save energy in operating the pump, but also to achieve a simplification compared to facilities without speed controllers (but with minimum pressure fluctuations) by enabling smaller buffer tanks that require less space to be used. The invention proposes that for this purpose, for delivery rates or liquid withdrawal from pressure booster facilities in the range of the desired withdrawal or above, the pump be operated in a steady state in the range of maximum pump efficiency at rated speed, while for delivery rates or liquid withdrawal from pressure booster facilities below the desired withdrawal, the pumps be operated in a non-steady state, alternating between operation in the range of maximum pump efficiency at rated speed and operation at minimum speed and minimum energy consumption (Fig.). <IMAGE>
