Mixer for use in plastics extruder

A mixer for elasticated polymers has a rotor and stator with intermediate gap, both of which have rows of mixing chambers disposed round their circumferences; all these chambers have the same shape with one longer axis in plan in which elevation they have a semi-circle in front and back with radius (R). The numbers of these chambers in the rotor and stator are equal but are offset rotor/stator by half a chamber length. The chambers are arc-shaped grooves in radial section with the radius (R), their depth being less than (R); their length is 3R to 4R; the intervals between chambers (on both the rotor and stator) are less than 1/2R. The gap between rotor and stator is arranged to produce an adequate shear speed.
