Alkylaromatic hydrocarbon dehydrogenation process contacting a reactant stream contg. the alkylaromatic hydrocarbon with a dehydrogenation catalyst at sub-atmospheric pressure to give a reactor effluent stream, from which prods. are recovered by; (A) cooling, without significant condensation, by indirect heat exchange against the reactant stream; (B) compresing to a pressure below 1 atm. by a 1st mechanical compressor; (C) partially condensing; and (D) sepg. the resultant effluent stream in sepn. zone, with pressure maintained 1 atm. absolute by 2nd mechanical compressor, into a vapour comprising H2 and a liq. from which the unsatd. hydrocarbon is recovered.
