PURPOSE:To print an image so as to provide the characteristics suitable for the image, by selecting the gradation recording characteristic of a printer means from the image data or manuscript image and character image developed on a multivalue image memory. CONSTITUTION:For example, the multivalue image data having a magenta color developed on a page memory 133 and the one-bit character/intermediate recording change-over signal developed on a picture constituting memory 155 are transmitted to a color printer 122 in synchronous relation to the image forming operation of a printer through a scanner/printer interface 120. The pattern necessary for medium contrast recording such as the gradation pattern stored in a graphic memory 131 develops a bit pattern performing medium contrast recording on the corresponding area of the picture constituting memory 155 in matching relation to the development position of the image data to the page memory 133. By this method, at the time of the preparation of a hard copy, medium contrast recording is performed by the printer 122. Further, the memory 155 designates whether the hard copy formed by the image signal of the page memory 133 is recorded as a character or medium contrast image, at every memory pixel of the page memory 133. |
