<p>The material comprises an abrasion-resistant pervious nonwoven web of bonded filaments, and an absorbent layer of microfibres. The layers are bonded intermittently with the bonds penetrating through the pervious layer and joining the fibres of that layer to those in the absorbent layer. The absorbent layer pref. incorporates absorbent particles and/or fibres and is pref. od 30% polypropylene fibres and 70% wood pulp with a basis wt. of 190 g/m2. The pervious layer is pref. of spun-bonded polypropylene treated with or containing a surfactant. Bonds are pref. formed by ultrasound or heat and form pockets to provide enhanced roughness, with the bonds in a diamond or square pattern. There may be a waterproof backing layer over the exposed side of the absorbent layer, e.g. of polyethylene.</p> |
