摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the above compound in high purity, by reacting phenol with acetone in the presence of hydrochloric acid catalyst, removing hydrochloric acid from the reaction mixture, crystallizing the product with water, recovering water and phenol under reduced pressure and reusing the recovered mixture by treating with a specific ion exchange resin. CONSTITUTION:Phenol is made to react with acetone at a molar ratio of 4-12 in the presence of hydrochloric acid catalyst at 40-70 deg.C, the hydrochloric acid is removed from the reaction mixture by vacuum distillation under a pressure of 20-200mmHg at 90-150 deg.C, water is added to the product to effect the crystallization of the addition salt of bisphenol A and phenol, the mixture of water and phenol is distilled out under reduced pressure and the distilled mixture is made to contact with a weakly basic ion exchange resin (e.g., Lewatit Mp-62, product of Bayer AG) at 20-70 deg.C in the case of reuse. The water and phenol recovered by the above procedure is recycled and reused. The contamination of bisphenol A caused by the corrosion of the apparatus can be prevented and the objective compound useful as a raw material for polycarbonate resin, epoxy resin, engineering plastics, etc., can be produced by this process.
