A portable oxygen generator for an emergency medical use comprises an elongated cylindrical vessel with a cleaning and filterling unit connected to the screw-treaded top and sealed by a gasket ring. Oxygen is generated by a solution of sodium peroxide and electrolytic manganese dioxide in water and passes through a top outlet into an inverted U-tube having an open end capped with a combined mechanical filter and check valve, and then bubbles through the water seal in the filter unit.
