MULTIPLE CONECTIVITY IN MILLIMETER WAVE SYSTEM

These disclosed embodiments describe methods for the network and UE perform multiple-connectivity operation with one microwave base station and multiple MMW base stations. In one novel aspect, the network performs multiple-connectivity operation, comprising configuring a set of MMW base stations for a UE, selecting one of the MMW base stations as UP anchor and performing traffic data transmission/reception through the set of MMW base stations. Only one of the set of MMW base stations is configured as the UP anchor MMW base station, where the S1-U interface is terminated. In one embodiment, two types of operation for data transmission/reception for multiple-connectivity are defined. In another novel aspect, the set of MMW base stations and the UP MMW base stations can be changed, either in network-centric way or UE-centric way.
