In a fluidised-bed reactor for endothermic or exothermic chemical reactions, the fluidised bed is restricted to the interior of a plurality of mutually spaced contact tubes (14) arranged vertically within a reactor shell (2) which, in the manner of a tubular reactor, open out, sealed, into tube sheets (16, 18) and round the outside of which contact tubes a heat transport medium flows. The advantages of fluidised-bed and tubular reactors are thus combined together without having to accept their disadvantages. <IMAGE>
