Phosphate-free builder system for detergents and cleaners which itself forms no precipitates or deposits on and in the fabric to be washed or deposits in the washing machine, consisting of a mixture of gluconic acid or derivatives thereof and polyacrylates or polyacrylate polymers or dicarboxylic acids, their esters or salts in the ratio 5:1 to 1:5 by weight, as well as detergent, cleaner and polish compositions with addition of this builder system in an amount of 3 to 75% by weight.
