Stuffer crimping method and apparatus for balancing unequal force applied to the gates due to thickness variations of existing yarn involves using several adjacent hinged exit gates (18,20) to which loading force is applied, and transferring force among the gates by a linkage (32,36) connecting the gates to the force applicator (38), specially a fluid pressure unit. Specifically two or three gates of equal size are provided.
