PURPOSE: To enhance the light durability of an image dye formed in a photographic coating material subjected to development processing by containing a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer incorporating a specified dye forming coupler compound. CONSTITUTION: The photographic element comprises a support and the photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer incorporating the dye forming coupler compound represented by formula I in which Ar is an optionally substituted aryl group; R is an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group; L is an simple bond or a bonding group; and Ballast is a group having a size and an arrangement for preventing diffusion of the coupler, thus permitting the obtained dye coupler to be improved in light durability and in resistance to yellowing.
