A composite slot insulation comprises a U-shaped paper channel armour with axially spaced holes through its base 915), epoxyglass layers (17,19) formed integrally with the U-base to form the cover, and axially elongate slots (25) formed throught the base and layers. The layers are on each side of the base to sandwich it. The composite insulation may be made by hot-forming sheets of 0.03 inch thick aramid paper into channel shape, optionally with radially inward fins (21) formed in moulding. Holes are formed before moulding and slots are machined into the formed composite. |
