PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic card encoder with a superior protecting function and easy to perform format management by providing a setting means to set and store a specific personal identification number, and a control circuit to perform completion/cancellation operation for card reading. CONSTITUTION:The subject encoder is composed of a device main body 11 incorporating a program control circuit (CPU) and a keyboard 12. In a magnetic card issued at the encoder 10, its own device No. is set on a specific area 36 outside a definition area 30 regulated by JIS as the personal identification number, and a format registration No. is set on a specific area 35. The CPU performs a prescribed processing according to a processing procedure programmed in advance. For example, in a card reading routine, the No. in the area 36 of an inserted card is collated with the device No. inherent to the encoder, and reading is refused when non-coincidence is obtained, and a lamp 16 is lit, etc., as an alarm. When coincidence is obtained, a corresponding format is read out from a memory based on the No. in the area 35, and a reading operation is completed only when it coincides with the recording format of the card, and the data of 69 digits of the card are displayed on a display panel 15. |
