A support for catalysts of the precious metal type, such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, rhenium, iridium, etc., is produced by the hydrothermal treatment of aluminium oxide of the boehmite or gamma-aluminium oxide type. The pore structure of the support is characerized by a specific surface which is not less than 75 m2.g-1, and in that at least 50% of the pore surface is present in pores having a diameter of at least 100 angstroms. <IMAGE> |
