<p>A single blade, single stroke cut-off device for an elongate workpiece cutting machine, said device comprising a cut-off blade (100) mounted transaxially with respect to the axis of the elongate workpiece, said cut-off blade having a tip (112) adapted to pierce the workpiece and at least one cutting edge (114, 116, 118) adapted to sever the workpiece and means (14, 106, 110) for moving the blade along a path of travel. This path has a first component in which the tip (112) moves in a first direction (119) along at least a part of a first chord (120) of a circular cross-section of the workpiece to effect piercing thereof and a second component wherein the tip moves in a second direction (123) along at least a part of a second chord (122) of said circular cross-section of the workpiece, to effect severing of the workpiece by said at least one cutting edge (114), said second direction (122) of tip movement being disposed at an acute angle alpha with respect to the first direct (119) of tip movement.</p> |
