PURPOSE:To obtain the subject metallic wire coated with a uniform, highly hard film and excellent in wear resistance by forming, through electroplating, a specific nickel-phosphorus alloy plating layer on the surface of the teeth part of a metallic wire itself consisting of steel wire. CONSTITUTION:The edge 2 of a metallic wire itself 1 consisting of hard steel wire or alloy steel wire is coated with a masking agent and then subjected to a treatment by e.g. alkali degreasing and pickling with hydrochloric acid as a pretreatment. Thence, an alloy plating layer 4 containing 10-15wt.% of phosphorus is formed, through electroplating, on the surface of at least teeth part 3, using a phosphorus-contg. alloy such as nickel-phosphorus or cobalt- phosphorus dispersed with at least one kind of hard particles selected from silicon carbide, diamond, boron nitride, chromium carbide and alumina particles, followed by heat treatment, thus obtaining the objective inexpensive metallic wire.
