摘要 PURPOSE:To control the blowing rate of a B compd. exactly and to improve the yield of B-contg. metal by detecting the blowing rate of the B compd. into a melt reduction furnace from the quantity of light of the specific wavelength by the flame reaction that takes place in a high temp. atmosphere in the furnace at the tuyere end of the furnace. CONSTITUTION:A B compd. is blown together with high temp. air 5 through the tuyere 3 and/or 4 of a melt reduction furnace 6 in production of ferroboron. Iron ore and limestone are also blown through the tuyere 4. A raceway 8 is formed at each tuyere end by a carbonaceous solid reducig agent layer 7, and a formed gas 9 flows upward and is discharged. The blown B compd. is melt reduced and the B-contg. metal 10 absorbed in the descending Fe-C-Si metal and slag 11 accumulate. The B compd. blown here causes flame reaction by contact with the temp. atmosphere and generates the luminous flux having essentially 0.59-0.53mu wavelength. The quantity of said light is proportional to the amt. of B. Therefore, said quantity of the light is taken out as electric current with a photoelectric element 16, and is detected as the blowing rate of B in accordance with the predetermined correlation between the quantity of light and electric current.
