[Class 144 (i)] A wheel for railway and other vehicles comprises rubber cushions 11, continuous or in segments, fitted between the wheel-rim and a tee-section ring 3 carrying the outer tyre 2. The cushions 11 are axially compressed by means of side-flanges 5 and bolts 10 so as to be expanded radially into firm engagement with the wheel-rim and ring 3. To reduce heat-transmission from the tyre, the outer periphery of the ring 3 may be formed with grooves 14.</p> |
