PURPOSE:To provide the title derivative useful as an inexpensive water- developable image-forming material by reacting a specified anion-modified polyvinyl alcohol with a glycidylated vinyl compound in an aqueous solvent under acidic conditions. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer of vinyl acetate with an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or its derivative (e.g. maleic anhydride) is saponified to produce an anion-modified polyvinyl alcohol. The obtained alcohol is reacted with a glycidylated vinyl compound (e.g. glycidyl methacrylate) in water or a water/ lower alcohol mixed solvent under acidic conditions to produce a radical-curable polyvinyl alcohol derivative. This derivative can be desirably used in the production of plates for letterpress printing, screen printing, etc., and fine processing for printed circuits, television shadow masks, etc. |
