PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal polyester resin which can be easily dyed and has high strengths and high elasticity by treating a specified main chain type liquid polyester resin with sulfuric acid, fuming sulfuric acid, chlorosulfonic acid or sulfur trioxide. CONSTITUTION:The purpose dyeable liquid crystal polyester resin is obtained by treating a main chain type liquid crystal polyester resin essentially consisting of structural units of formulas I and II with a chemical selected from among sulfuric acid, fuming sulfuric acid, chlorosulfonic acid and sulfur trioxide. The polyester to be used generally refers to a thermoplastic liquid crystal polyester, a liquid crystal polyesteramide or a liquid crystal polyester ether. They are particularly desirable polyester resins because they have good melt moldability, for example, good spinnability in melt spinning, the strengths and moduli of the obtained polyester resins are high, the dimensional stability is high because of low hygroscopicity, starting materials are easily available, and high strengths can be given to them. |
