PURPOSE:To record a larger number of images than the case where RGB video signals are recorded with the same recorder by recording black-and-white NTSC video signals without converting them into RGB video signals. CONSTITUTION:NTSC video signals inputted from an image inputting device are also inputted to a black-and-white recognition circuit 103 from which a black-and-white detecting signal is sent to a CPU 104 when the black-and-white NTSC signals are inputted. Upon detecting a release signal and the black-and- white detecting signal sent from the circuit 103, the CPU 104 sends a control signal to an input signal switching control circuit 105 and makes the circuit 105 to switch the outputs of a set of multiplexers 91, 95, and 99 to black-and- white NTSC video signals and video signals converted into digital signals to be written in a picture memory 93.
