PURPOSE:To optimally perform constant speed travel control at the time of travel along an ascent by resetting a travel mode to an overdrive constant speed travel mode, when throttle opening becomes less than a throttle opening threshold value, after releasing the overdrive constant travel mode with shift- down operation. CONSTITUTION:In such a case where an automobile runs along an ascent during constant speed travel, an overdrive travel mode is released when the speed of the automobile drops by the predetermined speed V1 from a target speed Vo and this state continues for the predetermined time t1. Furthermore, comparison is made between throttle opening thetaa and a throttle opening threshold value thetaTH in every predetermined time t2. When the throttle opening thetaa drops below the throttle opening threshold value thetaTH, the travel mode is reset to the overdrive travel mode. According to the aforesaid construction, the overdrive travel mode is immediately reset, when the throttle opening thetaa drops below the throttle opening threshold value thetaTH. Consequently, the resetting of the overdrive travel mode can be finely controlled, according to the slope of a road. |
