PURPOSE: To obtain a cornea-protective agent consisting of a mixture composed of tylose solution with the size of the maximum microsphere within a specific range, aqueous sodium chloride solution and buffer solution with a specific pH range, capable of mitigating the extent of cornea damage and complication in cornea operation and rapidly excludable through natural route. CONSTITUTION: This cornea-protective agent is obtained by the following process: a 0.7-0.8% solution of tylose as a cellulose derivative is prepared, being mixed with an aqueous 0.85% sodium chloride solution and a buffer solution with pH7.2-7.4, the resultant solution is subjected to centrifugal separation followed by separating the resultant supernatant, which is then filtered to obtain a tylose fraction as the objective cornea-protective agent with the size of the maximum microsphere of 0.4μm. Being low in tylose concentration, this cornea- protective agent can be promoted in exclusion from the eye within an appropriate period after operation; furthermore, because the size of the microspheres is smaller than the physiological pore size, this agent can also be promoted in exclusion through natural route.
