Galactomannans, the hydroxy groups of which are totally or partially present in the form of low molecular weight aliphatic, araliphatic and/or aromatic ether or ester groups and in which 20 to 80% of the mannose units present in the galactomannan chain form connected mannose blocks having 2 to 20 mannose units which are not substituted by galactose groups, for coating and/or embedding solid and/or liquid active substances which only release these active substances in the colon or in the presence of glycolytic enzymes, processes for their preparation and medicaments manufactured using galactomannans of this type.
