PURPOSE:To attain range finding even for different objects by detecting a prescribed number of sets of distance information corresponding to each range finder area respectively according to a prescribed rule for each divided range finding area and making calculation based on each distance information. CONSTITUTION:An output of a pre-processing circuit 3 pre-processing an object signal outputted from an image pickup element 2 is fed to a band pass filter(BPF) 4 and an A/D converter 5 as an automatic focus(AF) signal, in which the signal is converted into a digital signal and it is fed to a multi-area gate 6 and distributed corresponding to plural divided range finding areas S1-S5 and the distributed signals are fed to integrators 7a-7e corresponding to the divided range finding areas S1-S5, and a prescribed number of sets of distance information corresponding to each range finding area are obtained respectively from each divided range finding area according to a prescribed rule. Then an arithmetic means 9 makes calculation based on each distance information to obtain a range finding data. Thus, even when an object is different, the range finding is attained. |
