PURPOSE:To prevent axial displacement of both end parts of optical fibers from becoming larger under the influence of dirt and dust when the optical fibers in a pair are fuse-connected with each other. CONSTITUTION:The width H of the space 20 between both guide blocks 11, 12 on which recessed grooves 41, 42 for the insertion of optical fibers are formed is set in the range of 4 mm or less. Thus, since the width H of the space 20 between the guide blocks 11, 12 is set at 4 mm or less, the influence of dirt and dust can be reduced due to the space 20 of small width (4mm or less) when the end parts of optical fibers are inserted into the respective recessed grooves 41, 42 on the guide blocks 11, 12, and fuse-connected with each other, even if dirt and dust enter the respective recessed grooves 41, 42. As a result, axial misalignment of the end parts of optical fibers can be reduced, and thus an increase in loss of the connections of the fibers can be restricted. |
