PURPOSE:To prevent direct vibrations in a specified operational region like a low rotational speed region by performing direct coupling control allowing a fine slip to improve fuel consumption and monitoring the direct coupling vibrations due to the degradation of working oil to inhibit the slip control when the occurrence of the vibrations is detected. CONSTITUTION:In an automatic transmission provided with a torque converter 20 interposed between an engine and speed change gear 10 and having a direct coupling mechanism 26 like a damper clutch, when the engine is run in a predetermined running region by a controller 40, a slip amount is controlled to the proximity of a desired slip amount by the direct coupling mechanism 26. When vibrations accompanying the degradation of working oil in the torque converter are monitored to detect the occurrence of the vibrations, the slip control to the desired slip amount in a predetermined running region is inhibited so that the control other than the slip control is controllably performed. |
