METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING POSITION OF SEPARATING PLANE FOR TWO MEDIUMS

PURPOSE: To measure the position of a separating plane between two media accurately using Compton effect. CONSTITUTION: The inventive system comprises a measuring apparatus 14 including an emitter 1 and a receiver 11 for X-ray orγ-ray wherein the emitter and the receiver are arranged to concentrate a radiation to the basic volume part 12 of a medium 6. The measuring apparatus is arranged perpendicularly to a plane 7 between media 6. When the derivative of a displacement detection signal exceeds a threshold, a fifth signal indicative of the excess amount is calculated. Subsequently, the center or displacement corresponding to the newest sequence of the fifth signal of the same sign is calculated and the displacement is weighted by a corresponding fifth signal.
