PURPOSE:To automate frame line area extraction as a selected object candidate, and to prevent the soiling of an original by providing a contour tracing means, a character/graphic decision means, a contour comprehensive relation decision means, and an area extracting means by remarking that a frame line and a table line in an original picture can be substituted for a designated area by a marker pen. CONSTITUTION:Area recognition processing is executed mainly by a CPU 7, and an input picture contour line in a RAM 3 is traced by the contour tracing means 9 by using an area recognizing means 13 constituted of the contour tracing means 9, the character/graphic decision means 10, the contour comprehensive relation decision means 11, and the area extracting means 12, etc., and picture contour information is outputted. Here, whether that picture is a graphic picture or a character picture is decided by the means 10 from the size of the contour of each picture based on the picture contour information from the means 9, and on the decision of the graphic picture, the means 11 decides the comprehensive relation of the outer and the inner contours of the graphic picture, and correspond to these contours. After that, the means 12 extracts a frame line area based on the comprehensive relation. Thus, the soiling of the picture by the pen is prevented. |
