摘要 PURPOSE: To control the level of nerve growth factor(NGF) of central nervous system by administering an effective amount of cytokine. CONSTITUTION: The NGF level of a central nervous system is controlled by administering an effective amount of a cytokine to increase the NGF synthesis, a cytokine to lower the NGF synthesis or a substance indirectly varying the NGF level by varying the cytokine level. The cytokine effective for increasing the NGF synthesis is e.g. interleukin-1, fibroblast growth factor, tumor growth factorαandβand platelet-originated growth factor, and the substance to vary the cytokine level is e.g. an IL-1 inhibitor such as glucocorticoid (e.g. dexamethasone). This procedure is effective for the treatment of nervous disorder caused by the damage of central nervous system by surgical operation, ischemia, sensitive tumor or a toxic agent, congenital learning disability and degenerative disorder of nerve, especially dementia such as Alzheimer's disease.
