USE:A cosmetic, emulsifying agent, oiling agent of self emulsifiable type, wetting agent, and thickening agent. Having strong emulsifying ability, and low skin irritation. PREPARATION:For example, mannose is treated with a carbonyl compound to give a compound shown by the formula II (R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl, aryl, etc.; X is halogen), which is etherified by the use of a phase transfer catalyst to give a compound shown by the formula III, which is hydrolyzed in the presence of an acid catalyst. |
