An improved package (10) for a medical device includes an inner wrap (18) that envelopes the medical device, the inner wrap (18) including a gas-permeable surface, and a chamber (22) defined in the inner wrap (18) to store a hydratable sensor (28) of the medical device. Plumbing (14) for the package (10) controls fluid flow into and within the inner wrap (18), to selectively establish, without breaching a portion of the inner wrap (18) surrounding the sensor (28), fluid communication between the gas-permeable surface and the sensor (28), to sterilize the sensor (28) and the inner wrap (18) with a gaseous sterilant, or to hydrate the sensor (28) with hydration fluid obtained from a source of hydration fluid (40) connected to the chamber (22), or to equilibrate the hydration fluid in the chamber (22) with an external source of gas, to calibrate the sensor (28) within the inner wrap (18). |
