The apparatus for preventing surge current in AC arc welding machine includes a phase control circuit comprising a TRIAC (S1), a magnetic contractor, a condenser (C2), a variable resistor (VR1), resistors (R2,R3,R4), a DIAC (Q) and a condenser (C1); a lighting circuit comprising a resistor (R1) and a neon lamp (NL1); a control circuit comprising a TRIAC (S2), a current trans (CT), a variable resistor (VR2), a diode (D), a gene diode (ZD), a condenser (C5) and resistors (R5,R6,R7); and a display circuit with a neon lamp (NL2). The apparatus controls the TRIAC and the magnetic contractor parallely.
